Space Flight

The new privately funded and built “Space Plane” made the second journey to the edge of space within the two week time frame yesterday and returned to earth successfully earning the designers the $10,000,000.00 prize. The sub-orbital flight went off without a hitch.

This represents about half the cost of the project. The rest will be covered by private investment in ownership of the technology. The owners of Virgin Atlantic Airlines already have its moniker on the craft. This might be the next generation of space flight opening the sky to at least the wealthy. I would go but I am short about $200,000.00 that it would cost for the ride.

This is the sort of thing which we were told by our science teacher Miss. Singer many years ago. She failed to mention the $200,000.00 for the ticket. Interestingly, Gordon “Gordo” Cooper the younger of the first “Mercury” astronauts passed away the same day that space flight had taken a new direction. I don’t know how aware he was of the new mode of flight; however I am sure that he would have been pleased to know that what he and others had begun is moving forward.
